Hi,

I'm baffled by unusually slow saving behaviour with FastKeys. It can take 10 seconds to do this, and it's never happened in the years I've used the programme. I've twice uninstalled and reinstalled it; I'm using the most recent version; I've changed the save location from Dropbox to my C Drive in case that speeds it up (no) and I don't have an excessive amount of scripts or commands running - mostly just the text expander module which is about the size it's always been.

Clearly, I'm missing something - can someone help?

Regards,
John

Try to disable "Auto download website icons" or disable the Start Menu module (Preferences/Module activation).
If one of this works then check the recent Start Menu entries for possible errors.

Thanks, Marco. I tried your suggestions and the trials eventually revealed a different problem.

Every time FastKeys saves, it saves a new copy of the fdb file. Sample below. I don't know how to stop this happening, nor how it first began. But it almost certainly explains the sluggish save, and loading, speed. Can you tell me what I need to do?

Here's a sample:
Documents\FastKeys\FastKeys Backup\FastKeys 8 Feb 20\FastKeys 8 Feb 20_2020_02_16 13_46_01.fdb
Documents\FastKeys\FastKeys Backup\FastKeys 8 Feb 20\FastKeys 8 Feb 20_2020_02_16 13_46_38.fdb
Documents\FastKeys\FastKeys Backup\FastKeys 8 Feb 20\FastKeys 8 Feb 20_2020_02_16 13_47_24.fdb
Documents\FastKeys\FastKeys Backup\FastKeys 8 Feb 20\FastKeys 8 Feb 20_2020_02_16 13_48_33.fdb
Documents\FastKeys\FastKeys Backup\FastKeys 8 Feb 20\FastKeys 8 Feb 20_2020_02_21 14_48_28.fdb
Documents\FastKeys\FastKeys Backup\FastKeys 8 Feb 20\FastKeys 8 Feb 20_2020_02_22 18_17_40.fdb

Those are automatic backups - see Preferences/General/Folders.

Takes about 15 seconds for me, sometimes a bit more (just tried setting a stopwatch); it depends on the size of your .fdb, where a a small .fdb, takes only about a second. My main is 422 KB at the moment, but yeah, I carry on while it happens + am too used to it, so it's not problem at all at this point. Am on ver. 4.29 btw.

Thanks, Marco. I didn't know about this and it was set to 30 backups. I've heavily reduced this. With luck, that's now fixed the problem.

Oblomov, thanks for your reply. I raised the question because I have FastKeys on 2 different machines and the slow problem only surfaced on one. The other machine may take 2-3 seconds, but my loadings and settings (which are pretty light) may be quite different to yours.
